Data Corner

RSM McGladrey's Distribution Industry Report found that executives of U.S. wholesale-distributors have altered their growth and operational strategies to offset related sector weaknesses and the rising costs of doing business, mainly associated with labor and energy. The report was extracted from the results of the firm's 2008 Manufacturing and Wholesale Distribution National Survey of more than 960 industry executives conducted earlier this year. The percentage of survey participants who described their companies as "thriving and growing" was 38%, down 21% compared with the 2006 survey. However, 45% reported their company as "holding their own."
