Kohler Co. launched www.KOHLER.com/pro , a comprehensive Web-based resource designed for various trade-specific audiences, including plumbers, contractors, architect/designers, builders, remodelers and counter top installers. Site visitors can search for product information, create folders to keep individual projects organized and store this information on the site for future access.

Rheem Heating & Cooling introduced Total Access Training, an online multimedia training component that includes several pre-existing courses for Rheem and Ruud contractors and technicians that address seasonal climate issues and environmentally friendly solutions. Available at www.thetrainingnetwork.com, courses focus on technical and mechanical subjects.

FLEURCO won a bronze award in the home living category for Kinetik, its frameless sliding shower enclosure, during the International Design Excellence Award competition. Kinetik features two sets of soundless Symmetry rollers that slide smoothly over the enclosure's solid stainless steel bar at the push of a finger.

People On The Move

SloanSloan Valve Co. announced that its board of directors voted Kirk Allen, James C. Allen and Graham C. Allen into the newly created Office of the President. They succeed their father, Charles S. Allen, who was president/CEO for the past 31 years and has been elected to the position of executive chairman. Also, Daniel Lewis was appointed director of global sourcing.

MAAX named Kyle Straub vice president of sales, Professional Division for North American markets.

Bradford White Corp. promoted Nicholas J.Giuffre (right) to president and chief operating officer. He joined the company in 1978 and most recently was executive vice president.

Lochinvar Corp. promoted Stirling Boston to director of marketing.

Mincron Software Systems appointed Jonathan Lindle director of client services.

Rheem Heating & Cooling promoted Neal Cowne to vice president of sales.

IN MEMORIAM:

Norman Menaker, 87, who served the plumbing industry in various capacities for 60 years, died of heart failure July 26 at his home in Lawrence, NY. He was founder and president of Cobra Wire Co. in New Jersey until he sold the company in 1971. Then he started his own rep business, Norman Menaker Organization (Long Island, NY), representing many of the major U.S. plumbing manufacturers as well as overseas companies. Menaker also was founder and president of NMO Specialty Manufacturing Corp., Long Island, NY, a manufacturing, importing and repackaging company of specialty plumbing parts, which was sold in 2001. He remained active in the manufacturers rep industry until early 2008. "He was loved for his gift of communication and known to all as a gentleman," said his daughter, Stefanie Menaker.

Izetta Marie Lute, 88, of McDermott, OH,  who co-founded Lute Plumbing Supply (Portsmouth, OH) with her late husband, C. Hobert Lute, died at her home Aug. 30 after a long illness. She was the mother of Christopher Lute, chairman/CEO, and grandmother of Jason Lute, president/COO, at Lute Supply. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at the F.C. Daehler Mortuary Co. Portsmouth, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lute Family Scholarship Fund, c/o Shawnee State University, 940 Second St., Portsmouth, OH 45662; the McDermott United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, McDermott, OH 45652;  or  SOMC Hospice,  2201  25th  St.,  Portsmouth, OH.

American Standard Water Savings Calculator

American Standard launched online tools designed to help conserve water. Its new interactive Water Savings Calculator allows users to estimate how many gallons of water and how many dollars they can save by converting to various water-efficient fixtures and faucets. The Web site also provides a current listing of water conservation rebates available throughout the United States.

Whirlpool Corp. announced that two of its senior account managers, Lanny Tillery and Richie Heumann , have earned Certified Green Professional (GCP) designations from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The GCP distinction recognizes Tillery and Heumann as building industry professionals with knowledge of the best strategies for incorporating green building principles into home building.

Rangecraft custom range hood

RangeCraft Manufacturing has created what it believes is the world's largest copper island range hood for residential use. Custom made, it measures 126 inches wide by 92 inches deep by 45 inches high and is constructed of hand-hammered antique copper with smooth antique copper tiles. The hood features trims and crown molding in non-directional stainless steel. It houses 18 micro baffle filters, removable grease trays, 16 LED lights and has the added feature of replacing air taken out of the kitchen.

Existing-home sales rose in July to the highest level in five months, although sales have hovered in a relatively narrow range over the past 11 months, according to the National Association of Realtors. Existing-home sales - including single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops - increased 3.1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5 million units in July from a downwardly revised level of 4.85 million in June, but are 13.2% lower than the 5.76 million-unit pace in July 2007.

The national median existing-home price for all housing types was $212,400 in July, down 7.1% from a year ago when the median was $228,600.

Total housing inventory at the end of July rose 3.9% to 4.67 million existing homes available for sale, which represents an 11.2-month supply at the current sales pace, up from an 11.1-month supply in June. The rise in supply results from a sharp increase in condo inventory; the single family supply declined.

Single-family home sales rose 3.1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.39 million in July from 4.26 million in June, but are 12.4% below the 5.01 million-unit level a year ago. The median existing single-family home price was $210,900 in July, down 7.7% from July 2007.

Existing condominium and co-op sales increased 3.4% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 610,000 units in July from 590,000 in June, but are 18.6% below the 749,000-unit pace in July 2007. The median existing condo price was $223,400 in July, which is 2.7% below a year ago.

REGIONAL STATS

WEST: Existing-home sales jumped 9.7% percent in July to a level of 1.13 million and are 0.9% higher than July 2007. The median price in the West was $273,200, down 22.2% from a year ago.
NORTHEAST: Existing-home sales rose 5.9% to an annual pace of 900,000 in July, but are 11.8% below a year ago. The median price in the Northeast was $278,700, which is 4.9% lower than July 2007.
MIDWEST: Existing-home sales increased 0.9% to an annual rate of 1.12 million in July, but are 17.0% lower than July 2007. The median price in the Midwest was $175,400, up 1.0% from a year ago.
SOUTH: Existing-home sales slipped 0.5% to an annual pace of 1.85 million in July, and are 18.1% below a year ago. The median price in the South was $179,300, down 3.5% from July 2007.

Note: Existing-home sales, which include single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, are based on transaction closings.

Barclay Products Limited offers a cast iron slipper bathtub with claw feet. It is 60 inches long, available with or without deck holes. It includes non-skid strips. The tub is available with a painted white exterior or unfinished. Finishes for the claw feet include white, polished brass, polished chrome, satin nickel, oil rubbed bronze or unfinished. 

Lasertron

Lasertron offers a recessed stainless steel cabinet that emits a rainbow of light. The sleek receptacle can double as a medicine cabinet and a nightlight. The custom-sized cabinet is inserted into the interior of the wall and features a brush finish on all exposed surfaces. The doors have welded corners, rolled edges and no external welds or screws. Glass and mirror front inserts are available.

 

Meyda Lighting StillwaterMeyda Lighting designed its new Stillwater crystal fixtures to look like frozen trees with dangling icicles in winter. The Stillwater ceiling pendant is crafted of steel and finished in wrought iron. The pendant is 22 inches wide with an overall height that can be custom-sized 34 to 64 inches from the ceiling. A Stillwater wall sconce is also available.

Moen Salora  kitchen faucet

Moen's Salora pullout kitchen faucet is now available in its LifeShine classic stainless finish, a lightly brushed, cool-grey hue that blends with most kitchen décors. It features a wide-loop, single handle and streamlined faucet body. The pullout wand is ergonomically designed. A simple spring-activated spray button delivers either a forceful aerated stream or powerful spray. 

Delta Dryden lav faucetDelta Faucet says the clean lines and geometric forms featured in its Dryden bath collection were inspired by the Art Deco period of the 1920s and '30s. Shown is a two-handle widespread lavatory faucet. It is available in Venetian Bronze, chrome, aged pewter and Delta's Brilliance stainless finish. All of the lavatory faucets in the Dryden collection operate at a water-efficient flow of 1.5 gallons per minute and are WaterSense certified.

 

Jacuzzi Metallo_Showerpanel

Jacuzzi says it has more than doubled the number of spray outlets per body jet in its award-winning Metallo showerpanel for a gentler massaging spray. Other upgrades include: thermostatic control valve, height-adjustable "rain can" showerhead, multi-function hand shower, built-in anti-fog mirror and tempered glass accessory shelf.
