THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING HOUSE! Doesn't it seem sometimes like we are living in a science fiction or horror movie? ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES! TORNADOES! FIRES! FLOODS!  It's truly frightening and our sympathy goes out to everyone affected by these problems. But back to the shrinking house: Findings from the latest American Institute of Architects (AIA) Home Design Trends Survey reveal that the size of the typical U.S. home is declining. High energy costs and inflation are causing people to rethink their space needs at home. For more on this, see Breaking News Hotwire.

Smaller homes may be a short-term response to economic conditions, but there are signs that we may be at the beginning of a longer cycle where house sizes stabilize or even decline, said AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker, PhD, Hon. AIA.

The contest is open only to plumbing wholesaler showrooms and the entry deadline is August 15. The award will recognize all facets of the showroom operation. For details, visit www.supplyht.com.
