If anyone had any doubts about the strength of the "green" movement
, the media frenzy and attendee-packed venue at the GreenBuild Expo 2007 in Chicago this week should lay those to rest. Even pre-registered press had to wait an hour or longer to get a badge due to greater than anticipated response. One of the educational workshops I attended was standing room only, followed by another that had the corridors packed body-to-body with anxious audience members waiting to get into the room. The final count of attendees was 22,835 and there were more than 850 exhibitors.
Nearly 8,000 people attended former President Bill Clinton’s keynote address on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in which he announced a major partnership to retrofit public and private schools across the United States. The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) will work with K-12 schools throughout the nation to establish a Green Schools Program to reduce the energy consumption of school buildings. CCI and the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) will also work together to retrofit hundreds of colleges and universities across the U.S., helping them to meet their commitment to attain climate neutrality while lowering
their energy bills. Also, CCI is partnering with GE Real Estate to identify and implement building retrofit projects across their global portfolio and is working on three joint projects with the City of Chicago related to CCI’s Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program that enables cities to implement cost-effective, green retrofits of existing buildings.
Some familiar bath and kitchen names were at the show, including Kohler, Delta Faucet, Moen Commercial Products, TOTO, Sloan Valve, Bradley, Caroma, Falcon Waterfree, Takagi, Technical Concepts, Waterless Co., and Zurn. Pictured here, Ed Del Grande demonstrates a high-efficiency toilet at the Kohler Co. booth at GreenBuild. For more on this event, visit www.myplumbingportal.com.
