Day 1
Their goal on Day 1 was simple: get out the old stuff to make room for the new.

So in a matter of minutes, the old medicine cabinet [Photo 1] was removed, the vanity top pried off and both brought out to the garbage can. A few minutes later, the vanity cabinet followed suit.

Over the next several hours, all the old components would follow suit: the toilet, bathtub [boy, cast iron sure is loud when it falls against concrete], wall tile, floor tile [Photo 2] and old closet shelves.

When I arrived back home after work, I quickly walked upstairs and stopped at the bathroom door entrance (the actual door was lying in a nearby room, along with the other wood trim of the bathroom).

The bathroom was hollow to the point of me even being able to hear my voice echo as I mumbled some words about everything being gone.

There also was a thick presence of dust throughout the room. This was evident by the footprints that were easily visible on the wood floor as I walked back to the door.

Day 2
My excitement was fairly high this day based on a phone conversation I had with the crew foreman the night before as he gave me a review of day 1 and preview of day 2. [This became a daily happening, at my request.]

On tap for this day was the setting of the shower base and the special wallboard for the shower stall. While this lone event doesn’t sound like much, it proved very uplifting to me to actually see the main part of the bathroom remodeling begin to take shape.

As promised, the base and walls were in place [Photo 3] when I checked the bathroom upon returning from work.

It really looked great. I then imagined what it would look like with the new tile in place… I’ll have a better idea of that tomorrow, when the placement of tile begins.
